The Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene has become the premier theatre of its type in West Texas. The National Register of Historic Places lists this beautiful 1930 historical theatre. This beautiful theatre hosts a wide range of performances such as films, concerts and musical productions.

The Paramount, when it first opened, was a popular theater with a gilded procenium and 1500 seats. Interior was designed with an Atmospheric theme, a Spanish/Moorish courtyard theme and twinkling lights on the ceiling.

Many believe that there are still a few ghosts in the Paramount. The portraits of the people who used to hang in the theatre could be what’s haunting the building. The person who posed for the portrait may have loved the theatre when they were alive. They will often stay to watch live performances. The portraits of people who loved the theatre when they were alive are often left in place to watch it being used for live performances.

Grace Museum

Grace Museum, located in Abilene, houses an extensive collection of history and art. The displays of antiques and furniture give a peek into the old West frontier lifestyle. Reservations are required for all tours.

Frontier Texas is a top-notch interactive museum in Abilene that brings the Old West alive. The complex is designed in the style of a fort and serves as an official visitor center for Abilene. A gift shop is located at the attraction.

The exhibits have been divided into six sections. There are six sections, including “A Wild Land,” Comanche Empires, Buffalo Hide Trades, Military on the Frontiers, Cowboys and Longhorns and Frontier Settlements. Each section includes detailed historical information, as well amazing artifacts. Interactive holograms really set this museum apart. The holograms depict real people from Western history. You can choose to listen to all or just a few of the stories. It’s interesting to learn how different these personalities were.

A collection of historical firearms is also on display at the museum. This experience will help you learn more about the West, and the many conflicts that occurred in this region of the country.
