Online Therapy

Those types of counseling services or psychotherapy are held or conducted online via the Internet. Online Therapy allows one to connect with well-experienced and licensed counselors using any device having an internet connection such as a computer, tab, or even smartphone. Online therapy is new yet easily accessible and less costly. During pandemic times, online therapy has gained a lot and from then it is more preferably considered. 

Pros of Online Therapy

  1. Convenient and Affordable: As compared to In-person therapy, online therapy is usually much more affordable and convenient. Attending therapy easily at home in bed with comfort and scheduling upcoming sessions online can also be a better way to use online therapy effectively. 
  2. Effective for remote areas- Online therapy is easily accessible in rural or remote areas. Also due to the busy schedule of some people, one has great quick access to the treatment. 
  3. To have much affordable therapy one can even opt for online group therapy easily. The psychologist meets a number of patients online which also provides a wide level of confidentiality. 

Cons Of Online Therapy

With pros, online therapy comes with some desired risks and disadvantages. 

  1. There is complexity in expressing thoughts. Most people generally find difficulty in expressing their inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions in written words. There are chances of miscommunication between both the therapist and the client. 
  2. This is the major breakout of online therapy that medication is hard to prescribe after a certain online session. Also, here insurance companies often pose some risks to confidentiality. Moreover, they are not often ready to pay for online counseling.
  3. A poor or bad internet connection can hinder the session and create a lot of disturbance in the whole therapy.
  4. Some people find it hard to focus on online therapy, they get distracted easily which disrupts the whole counseling session. 

In-Person Therapy

In-person therapy allows patients to take their case personally with face-to-face interaction. But it is considered a safe space. Because of effective verbal communication, this therapy is more precisely considered. Whether it’s online therapy or in-person therapy, finding an experienced and understanding counselor or therapist is important for good successful outcomes. It develops a great holistic approach in terms of mental health.

Pros of In-Person Therapy

There are some real reasons that people still prefer In-person or traditional therapy. 

  1. Some clients prefer and are more comfortable in In-person therapy. They need personal interaction for effective communication with therapists as they find it a little bit hard to adjust to online therapy sessions. 
  2. Patients with severe mental health issues need in-person psychotherapy and care. 
  3. Rare chances of miscommunication. People find it more therapeutic being in someone’s space with proper guidance and support. 

Cons of In-person Therapy 

  1. People living in remote areas will find it tricky and tough to find someone close by. Moreover, traditional therapy is expensive. It requires a lot of money for a single session. 
  2. It’s not at all hassle-free. Scheduling and commuting every time is difficult for most clients nowadays. Also, it is not accessible to everyone.  
  3. Booking therapists is a different kind of task. Appointment availability is limited and not at all flexible. People generally have social stigma while attending this type of therapy especially clients suffering from social stigma.
